School of Information Engineering in Guangdong University of Technology is located in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center and is an important training base for information technology talents in Guangdong Province. The school has 3 Departments, 1 Research Institute, and 1 Teaching and Experimental Center.The school has highly competitive faculty: There are 89 full-time teachers, including 24 professors, 26 associate professors, 15 doctoral mentors, 59 master mentors, 7 national high-level talents, 6 provincial high-level talents. The school currently has 2,896 students, including 23 doctoral candidates, 475 master candidates, and 2,398 undergraduate students.

The school began to run undergraduate majors in 1981, and established the School of Information Engineering in 2000. Since 1981, it has trained nearly 15,000 talents in the field of information technology for the country, especially Guangdong Province, many of which have become leaders; technical elites and management key person, a large number of outstanding alumni have emerged. Graduates are generally recognized by society and employers, and the annual employment rate is over 96%.

In recent years, the school has firmly grasped the opportunity of the construction of high-level universities in Guangdong Province, vigorously promoted the construction of undergraduate majors, laid a solid foundation for talent training, continuously improved the comprehensive strength and influence of the discipline, and continuously improved the level of scientific and technical innovation, undertook a number of national major and key scientific research projects. The funding for scientific research projects in schools in 2019 exceeded 100 million RMB, providing a superior training environment for the cultivation of innovative talents. The school has a doctoral degree authorization point for first-level disciplines and a master degree authorization point for first-level disciplines in "Information and Communication Engineering", two master degree authorization points for academic degrees in second-level disciplines (of which the signal and information processing discipline is a key discipline with Guangdong characteristics). There is a master's degree authorized in electronic information, and the subject research direction covers information fields such as wireless communication, optical fiber communication, communication network, signal processing, electronic information, integrated circuit, artificial intelligence and so on. There are 4 undergraduate majors including information engineering, communication engineering, electronic information engineering and integrated circuit design and integrated systems. Among them, information engineering majors are the first batch of national first-class undergraduate major construction sites, pilot majors of the Ministry of Education Outstanding Engineer Education Training Program, Guangdong Provincial famous brand specialty and featured specialty, information engineering, communication engineering have passed the Chinese engineering education professional certification. Combined with the country's urgent need for artificial intelligence talents, the school organizes first-class teachers to strengthen the training of distinguished engineers.Since 2018, the four undergraduate majors of the school have been enrolled by broader major categories of electronic information, the professional diversion has been completed at the end of the fourth semester, and the fifth semester has entered professional study.

The school's professional experimental platform has advanced equipment, with 2 key laboratories in Guangdong Province, 7 provincial engineering centers, and 3 provincial laboratories. It has established an engineering education platform with enterprises and has set up 13 practical practice bases to provide students’ professional capabilities cultivation with a superior environment and platform support. Established a good cooperative relationship with many well-known universities abroad, built a platform for students' international training; focused on creating brand technology activities such as information forums, innovation practice halls, etc., and cultivated students' technological literacy and professional practical ability; actively carried out alumni forums and other rich cultural and sports activities to help students get fully development.
